Tigers target series win over Diamondbacks

May 18, 2008 - 2:59 PM Detroit (17-26) at Arizona (27-16), 4:10 pm EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers attempt to win the rubber game of their interleague series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

After dropping the series opener, Detroit responded with a 3-2 victory Saturday on the strength of another solid outing from Armando Galarraga, who helped the Tigers end their five-game losing streak.

A rookie, Galarraga allowed two runs over six innings to improve to 3-1 this season.

One day later, the Tigers look for a similar performance from Nate Robertson (1-4, 6.04 ERA), who will look to get his first win since helping Detroit clinch its last series on May 1.

However, Robertson did not factor into the decision in his last turn on Tuesday, a 3-2 loss to Kansas City - when he allowed two runs and 10 hits over seven innings.

Arizona counters with Randy Johnson (3-1, 5.40 ERA), who has won his last three decisions despite not lasting more than six frames all season long. In Tuesday's 8-4 win over Colorado, he surrendered four runs and nine hits over five innings.
