Campillo to make first start of season for Braves

ATLANTA (Ticker) - Jorge Campillo makes his first start of the season for the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday when the club faces the New York Mets in the night cap of a doubleheader.

Campillo (0-0, 1.27 ERA), who has allowed just three earned runs in 13 relief appearances this season, is making only his second career start and first since 2005.

While a member of the Seattle Mariners, the 29-year-old righthander injured his right elbow in his lone major league start. He was forced to undergo a "Tommy John" procedure, ending his campaign.

Campillo pitched three scoreless innings of relief on Thursday during the Braves 5-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He did not yield a run while striking out four in two innings during his only appearance against the Mets this season on April 26.

Claudio Vargas (0-1, 2.84) makes his second start of the season for New York on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old righthander surrendered just two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings but suffered the loss during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Washington Nationals.
