Brewers trying to avoid 10-game road losing streak

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers look to avoid a 10th consecutive loss on the road Tuesday when they open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Brewers have lost five games in a row and nine straight on the road, including a three-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox over the weekend.

Milwaukee, which has posted a dismal 5-12 record in May and is just 9-15 on the road this season, hasn't lost 10 consecutive contests away from home since the 1992 campaign.

Lefthander Manny Parra (1-2, 5.03 ERA) tries to help the Brewers snap their losing streak when he toes the rubber on Tuesday.

Parra allowed just three runs - one earned - and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings but did not factor in the decision during Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Paul Maholm (2-4, 4.94) counters for the Pirates after surrendering four runs and 11 hits in six innings, suffering his second defeat in his last three starts during Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
