Diamondbacks' Webb seeks 10th straight win
May 21, 2008 - 1:47 PM Arizona (28-17) at Florida (25-19) 7:10 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - Brandon Webb may have to make room for another Cy Young Award in his trophy case if he continues to pitch this well.
Webb aims for 10th straight victory on Wednesday as the Arizona Diamondbacks continue a three-game series with the Florida Marlins.
The 2006 National League Cy Young Award winner, Webb allowed three runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings of a 8-5 win over Colorado on Thursday.
Webb (9-0, 2.56 ERA) is the first pitcher to win his first nine starts since Andy Hawkins started 10-0 for San Diego in 1985. Webb has actually won 11 straight starts dating to last season.
The staff ace will try to help the Diamondbacks bounce back after Tuesday's loss in the series opener. Dan Uggla continued his hot stretch with a home run for the Marlins and Mark Hendrickson threw five effective innings in a 3-2 victory.
Uggla is hitting .542 (19-for-35) with six blasts in his last nine games and is one homer shy of tying Gary Sheffield's club mark for home runs in a month (11 in 1996).
Ricky Nolasco (2-3, 5.18) gets the ball for Florida. Nolasco allowed two runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings but did not receive a decision in a 7-6 loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday.
