Miller, Marlins seek sweep of Diamondbacks
May 22, 2008 - 12:47 PM Arizona (26-19) at Florida (28-18) 7:10 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - The young Florida Marlins are trying to prove their fast start is legitimate. A three-game sweep of the National League-leading Arizona Diamondbacks would help.
Andrew Miller takes the hill on Thursday as the first-place Marlins aim to send the Diamondbacks to their third straight loss.
Ricky Nolasco outdueled Arizona ace Brandon Webb and Cody Ross belted a tie-breaking home run as the Marlins posted a 3-1 victory on Wednesday.
Florida, which has baseball's lowest payroll at $21.8 million, has surprised everyone by remaining atop the National League East this late in the season. The victory over Webb opened some eyes as well, considering the 2006 Cy Young Award winner had won his first nine starts.
A day after his 23rd birthday, Miller (3-3, 6.18 ERA) will try and keep the momentum going and secure the Marlins fourth win in five games.. Miller allowed four runs - two earned - and five hits in five innings of a 7-6 loss to Kansas City on Friday.
Arizona will hand the ball to Dan Haren (5-2, 3.14), who has allowed three runs or less in each of his last four starts.
