Blue Jays overcoming offensive struggles
May 23, 2008 - 1:54 PM Kansas City (21-26) at Toronto (24-25) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays' anemic offense hasn't prevented the team from winning seven of its last 10 games.
The Blue Jays look to continue their strong play on Friday when they open a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals.
Toronto ranks 26th in the majors with 185 runs this season and is second to last in the American League, averaging 3.78 runs per game.
But, the Blue Jays scored at least six runs in a trio of victories over their last 10 games while limiting the opposition to three runs or fewer in seven contests over that span.
Toronto needs an improved effort at the plate if it wants to claim a victory against Royals' starter Zack Greinke on Friday.
Greinke (5-1, 2.18 ERA) hasn't allowed more than three runs this season, including his last outing when he gave up three runs and nine hits in six innings, walking one while striking out five. The 24-year-old righthander earned the win during Sunday's 9-3 victory over the Florida Marlins.
Roy Halladay (4-5, 3.38 ERA) counters for the Blue Jays after surrendering just one hit while striking out two in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, but did not factor in the decision during Sunday's 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
