Royals looking to avoid sixth straight loss

May 24, 2008 - 12:39 PM Kansas City (21-27) at Toronto (25-25) 1:07 pm EDT

TORONTO (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals will send a rookie to the mound as the club attempts to avoid a sixth straight loss Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Luke Hochevar (3-3, 4.29 ERA) will make his eighth career start and seventh of season, hoping to get more support from his offense that he did the last time out.

The 24-year-old righthander allowed seven runs - four earned - and five hits with six walks and two strikeouts over six innings during Monday's 7-0 setback to the Boston Red Sox. His best effort may not have mattered however, as Boston hurler Jon Lester no-hit the Royals.

Toronto will counter with righthander Jesse Litsch (5-1, 4.22), who will make his first appearance since May 16. He gave up two runs and five hits while striking out four in three innings of relief in a 10-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

It was Litsch's only relief appearance of the season. The 23-year-old has won his previous three decisions.

Roy Halladay tossed his major league-leading fifth complete game of the season and Marco Scutaro drove in four runs as the Blue Jays defeated the Royals, 7-1, in the season opener.

Toronto is seeking its third straight victory.
