Rays look to continue home success vs. Orioles
May 24, 2008 - 1:10 PM Baltimore (24-23) at Tampa Bay (28-20) 6:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) - The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to post their 11th win in the last 12 games at Tropicana Field when they host the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
The Rays have succeeded at home in large part due to staff that has allowed one home run in 352 at-bats and limited the opposition to a .170 (60-for-352) batting average during the last 11 home games.
Friday's series opener was no exception as Matt Garza tossed 7 1/3 stong innings in a 2-0 victory. Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena drove in the runs and Trever Miller and Troy Percival combined to pitch 1 2/3 hitless innings in relief.
It marked Tampa Bay's sixth shutout this season, with all six coming at home - a club record and the most home shutouts in the majors.
The Orioles have lost three in a row, managing a total of one run. They have scored a combined two runs in their last five setbacks.
Baltimore will have another tough test on Saturday as it attempts to solve Rays' righthander Edwin Jackson (2-3, 3.29 ERA).
The 24-year-old gave up one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking four while striking out seven, but took his third straight no decision during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Jackson has allowed just one run in 20 1/3 innings over his last three outings.
The Orioles will counter with righthander Steve Trachsel (2-4, 6.75), who will be pitching on 14 days rest after having a pair of scheduled starts fall on an off-day.
