Dunn powering Reds with recent surge
May 24, 2008 - 1:48 PM Cincinnati (22-27) at San Diego (18-32) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Adam Dunn and the Cincinnati Reds go for back-to-back wins on Saturday when they continue a four-game series against the San Diego Padres.
The 28-year-old Dunn blasted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning Friday, snapping a tie score to lift Cincinnati to a 3-2 victory.
The left fielder has six home runs in his last nine games and has raised his batting average from .207 to .248 on the strength of 12 hits over his current nine-game hitting streak.
Wilfredo Ledezma (0-1, 3.54 ERA) tries to cool off Dunn and the rest of the Reds when he takes the mound for the Padres on Saturday.
Ledezma allowed four runs and five hits in four innings, suffering the loss during Monday's 8-2 setback to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Bronson Arroyo (2-4, 6.02) counters for the Reds after surrendering five runs - three earned - and nine hits in five innings, taking a no decision during Monday's 6-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
