Cardinals looking to continue dominance of Dodgers
May 24, 2008 - 1:55 PM St Louis (29-21) at LA Dodgers (25-21) 10:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The St. Louis Cardinals look to continue their dominance of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday when the teams continue a three-game series.
The Cardinals have won 23 of their last 31 games against the Dodgers - dating back to the 2004 National League Division Series - after claiming a 2-1 victory on Friday.
Adam Wainwright tossed seven strong innings in the win and Ryan Ludwick belted a two-run homer.
Ludwick, who leads St. Louis with 13 home runs and 37 RBI this season, finished with three hits on Friday and ranks among the National League leaders in several offensive categories after posting five homers and 12 RBI in his last six games.
Ludwick looks to continue his strong play against Dodgers' ace Brad Penny (5-4, 5.34 ERA) on Saturday.
Penny had his last scheduled start on Sunday scratched due to arm stiffness. The 29-year-old righthander had lost each of his pervious two starts, allowing 15 runs and 19 hits in his last 10 2/3 innings.
Kyle Lohse (3-2, 4.71) toes the rubber for the Cardinals after surrendering three runs - two earned - and eight hits while striking out five in six innings on Sunday. The 29-year-old righthander did not factor in the decision, however, as St. Louis claimed a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
