Randolph's Mets trudge home after tough road trip

May 26, 2008 - 1:29 PM Florida (28-20) at Ny Mets (23-25) 7:10 pm EDT

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - The New York Mets return home from a dismal road trip to face the first-place Florida Marlins on Monday.

Manager Willie Randolph has come under fire for the Mets' lackluster play, leading to speculation that he could be fired. Randolph is scheduled to meet with ownership prior to the game.

New York managed just four hits off Aaron Cook in a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The Mets, who finished 1-6 on the road trip, have lost nine of 13 and are averaging just 2.4 runs in the past seven games.

The poor start has many thinking Randolph's days as manager are numbered.

Mike Pelfrey (2-5, 5.00 ERA), who takes the hill Monday, has been one of many Mets that have underachieved.

Pelfrey has lost five straight starts, and is coming off his worst outing of the season. The righthander was reached for six runs and eight hits in four-plus innings of a 11-4 loss to Atlanta on Wednesday.

Florida, which has won five of six, has surprised almost everyone and is atop the National League East.

Ricky Nolasco (3-3, 4.62) takes the hill looking to build off the best start of his career. Nolasco allowed just one run and three hits in seven innings of a 3-1 win over Arizona on Wednesday.
