Indians try to end slump, overcome White Sox

May 27, 2008 - 11:42 AM Chi White Sox (28-22) at Cleveland (23-28) 7:05 pm EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) - The Cleveland Indians are mired in one of their worst slumps of the season and a visit from the Chicago White Sox likely won't improve the situation.

The Indians try to solve the White Sox when the teams continue a three-game series on Tuesday.

Cleveland has lost nine of its last 10 games and five straight to its American League Central Division counterparts, including a 6-3 setback in 12 innings during the series opener on Monday.

Orlando Cabrera's go-ahead single in the 12th inning gave the the White Sox the lead before Bobby Jenks slammed the door in the bottom of the frame to earn his 100th career save.

Jenks, who has 12 saves this season, needed just 187 appearances to reach the milestone. Former Seattle Mariners hurler Kaz Sasaki is the only play to achieve the feat quicker - he earned save No. 100 in his 160th game.

Mark Buehrle (2-5, 4.82 ERA) tries to help the White Sox continue their dominance against the Indians when he toes the rubber on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old lefthander gave up just one run and two hits in seven innings, walking four while striking out two but did not factor in the decision during Thursday's 3-1 victory over Cleveland.

Aaron Laffey (2-3, 1.60) counters for the Indians and has been red hot in four starts this month, allowing just four runs - two earned - in 28 innings during May.
