Blue Jays aim for season-high sixth straight win
May 27, 2008 - 12:03 PM Toronto (28-25) at Oakland (28-23) 10:05 pm EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The surging Toronto Blue Jays open up a nine-game road trip Tuesday when they visit the Oakland Athletics.
Toronto has won 10 of its last 13 and are a season-high three games above .500. The Blue Jays have also tied a season high with five straight wins.
Toronto completed a four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals over the weekend with each starter going at least seven innings.
A.J. Burnett (5-4, 4.69 ERA) looks to continue Toronto's momentum when he takes the mound. The righthander has won his last two starts and allowed three runs and six innings during Toronto's 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday.
Oakland comes in winners of four straight and swept the Boston Red Sox over the weekend.
Rookie lefthander Greg Smith (2-4, 3.18) hopes to snap a personal four-game losing streak when he faces the Blue Jays.
Despite losing his last start, Smith pitched well, allowing just two runs in seven innings during Oakland's 3-2 setback to Tampa Bay on May 20.
