A's Harden aims for third straight win
May 28, 2008 - 1:09 PM Toronto (28-26) at Oakland (29-23) 10:05 pm EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) - Rich Harden is finally healthy and on pace for his best season in three years.
The injury-prone Harden takes the hill on Wednesday as the Oakland Athletics try to extend their season-high five-game winning streak vs. the Toronto Blue Jays.
Harden (3-0, 2.93 ERA), who made just two starts before heading to the disabled list on April 10, has won two straight outings. Harden has allowed just three runs and eight hits, while notching 16 strikeouts in his last 13 innings.
The Victoria, British Columbia native is showing flashes of 2005, when he went 10-5 with a 2.53 ERA in 22 starts. He has made just 13 starts since, but has look good thus far.
Harden will look to continue his comeback against Toronto, which had its five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday. Greg Smith threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the A's to a 3-1 victory in the series opener.
Toronto will try and get back on track behind ace Roy Halladay (5-5, 3.11). Halladay tossed his major league-leading fifth complete game on Friday, limiting the Kansas City Royals to one run and four hits in a 7-1 victory.
