Rios, Blue Jays face Athletics in rubber match

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Now that they have ended the Oakland Athletics' five-game winning streak, Alex Rios and the Toronto Blue Jays will turn their attention to winning the rubber match of the three-game series Thursday.

Rios drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning to lead the Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Rios smacked a double down the left field line to score Shannon Stewart from second, leading Toronto to its sixth win in seven contests.

A four-year veteran, Rios is batting .268 with three home runs and 23 RBI this season. He also has 11 stolen bases.

The Blue Jays will send righthander Jesse Litsch (6-1, 3.57 ERA) to the mound.

Litsch tossed a complete game shutout in his last outing - a 7-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. The 23-year-old gave up seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The Athletics, who have not allowed more than three runs in a game since May 19, will counter with lefthander Dana Eveland (4-3, 2.90).

Eveland is also coming off a complete game, allowing just one run and three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a 9-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on May 21.
