Rangers return to scene of Millwood's injury, face Athletics
May 30, 2008 - 1:52 PM OAKLAND (29-25) at TEXAS (27-28) 8:05 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Kevin Millwood hopes his next start against the Oakland Athletics is far different than his last injury-shortened outing.
Millwood and the Texas Rangers open a 10-game homestand when they take on the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
Texas finished it's own 10-game road trip 5-5 but looks to go eight games over .500 in May following a losing month of April. However, it hasn't been a good month for Millwood (2-3, 4.88 ERA), who was battered for seven runs and nine hits in a 7-3 loss to Seattle on May 3.
Even worse, on May 10 against Oakland, the unofficial Rangers' ace left after 12 pitches and two-thirds of an inning with a strained right groin. Even though Texas won, 6-4, Millwood was later placed on the 15-day disabled list. Over his last four starts before the DL stint, the big righthander was 1-1 with a 9.56 ERA.
The Athletics, losers of two straight following a five-game winning streak, counter with Justin Duchscherer (4-3, 2.16 ERA). The 30-year-old veteran is coming off his best outing of 2008, giving up just one hit in eight innings while fanning four in a 3-0 blanking of the Boston Red Sox last Saturday.
Duchscherer is 3-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 23 career appearances - one start - against Texas.
The Rangers are 4-2 against the A's this season.
