Astros big bats aim to get back on track

May 30, 2008 - 2:00 PM Houston (30-25) Milwaukee (26-28) 8:05 pm. EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros aim to snap a two-game skid Friday in the opener of a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Houston's high-powered offense managed just six hits in a 3-2 loss to St. Louis on Thursday. Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee each homered, but that was all the Astros could manage against Kyle Lohse and the Cardinals' bullpen.

Houston, which boasts two of the top three RBI men in the National League, has scored a total of three runs over the past two games. Lee is tied with Philadelphia Chase Utley for the NL lead with 46 RBI, while Berkman (45) is second.

The two sluggers will look to break out against inconsistent Brewers' rookie Manny Parra (2-2, 5.11 ERA). Parra allowed six runs and seven hits 4 1/3 innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 7-6 loss to Washington on Sunday. The lefthander had allowed three runs or less in each of his last three starts.

Meanwhile, Houston sends Brandon Backe (4-5, 4.19), who is seeking a third straight win. Backe allowed one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings of a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia on Friday.
