Utley, surging Phillies take on Marlins

May 30, 2008 - 2:17 PM Florida (30-22) at Philadelphia (31-24) 7:05 p.m. EDT

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Phillies go for their fifth straight win when they open a three-game series with the Florida Marlins on Friday.

A big reason for Philadelphia's recent success has been second baseman Chase Utley, who has three home runs and 13 RBI over his last four games. Utley currently leads the league with 17 home runs.

Philadelphia has also scored 48 runs as a team over its last four games, which included a 20-5 victory over Colorado on Monday.

Brett Myers (2-6, 5.79 ERA) hopes to benefit from the run support when he takes the mound for the Phillies.

The righthander has lost his last four starts and has not earned the win since April 17. Myers allowed four runs over six innings in Philadelphia's 4-3 loss to Houston last Saturday.

The Marlins are continuing their 10-game road trip against National League East Division-foes. Florida has lost its last two games, both coming against the New York Mets.

Mark Hendrickson (7-2, 4.14) hopes to continue his surprising start to the season when he takes the hill for the Marlins.

The 6-9 lefthander has won his last two starts and has already surpassed his win total from each of the last two seasons.

Hendrickson earned the win on Sunday despite giving up five runs in five innings during Florida's 8-6 victory over San Francisco.
