Red Sox searching for offense, open series with Orioles
May 30, 2008 - 2:20 PM Boston (32-24) at Baltimore (26-26) 7:05 p.m. EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox look to get their offense going when they open a four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Boston has dropped nine of its past 10 road games and are batting just .169 (32-for-189) through the first six games of its current 10-game road trip.
The Red Sox managed just two hits as they were blanked for the second time in five games, 1-0, at the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
Daniel Cabrera (5-1, 3.70 ERA) looks to keep the Boston bats silenced when he takes the hill for Baltimore. Cabrera did not factor in a decision in his last start, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings against Tampa Bay.
The righthander is just 2-9 with a 7.35 ERA over 12 career starts against the Red Sox, but Cabrera earned the win in a 6-3 victory over Boston on May 14.
The Red Sox will counter with Josh Beckett (5-4, 4.43) on the mound against Baltimore, which won two out of three against the New York Yankees during the week.
Beckett has lost two of his last three starts and suffered the defeat after allowing just two runs in seven innings to Oakland last Saturday.
The righthander lost his last start to Baltimore on May 13, giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
