Santana, Angels begin series at Mariners
Jun 2, 2008 - 1:52 PM LA Angels (34-24) at Seattle (21-36) 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- Ervin Santana aims to shoot down the Seattle Mariners for the second straight time when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim open a three-game series on Monday.
In his first outing against the Mariners this season, Santana (7-2, 3.09 ERA) yielded just one run and three hits through eight innings at Angels Stadium on April 19. In his career, the righthander is 4-2 with a 4.93 ERA over eight starts vs. the Angels.
Santana ended a personal two-game losing streak in his last appearance on Tuesday, holding the Detroit Tigers to just two runs and three hits en route to his third career complete game, 3-2.
Jarrod Washburn (2-6, 6.54) counters for the Mariners, who dropped two of three here during their weekend series against the Tigers.
In his last time out, Washburn gave up two runs in six frames in a no-decision at Yankee Stadium.
A former Angel, the 6-1 lefthander owns a 4-8 record with a 5.51 ERA against the franchise that drafted him in the second round in 1995. Washburn had four straight double-digit win seasons with the Angels (2001-04) before signing as a free agent with Seattle following the 2005 campaign.
