Berkman, Astros seek to end three-game skid
Jun 3, 2008 - 12:42 PM Houston (30-28) at Pittsburgh (26-30) 7:05 pm EDTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Lance Berkman will try and help the Houston Astros snap a losing streak on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Though his club is mired in a three-game skid, Berkman established himself as a candidate for National League MVP in May by leading the majors in a handful of categories, including batting average (.471), on-base percentage (.553), hits (49) and total bases (85).
However, the four-time All-Star was held to a double and the Milwaukee Brewers finished off a three-game sweep of the Astros with a 10-1 win on Sunday.
The NL Player of the Month for May will look to get back on track against Phil Dumatrait (2-2,3.52 ERA).
Dumatrait is coming off the best start of his career. The lefthander yielded just one unearned run and two hits in seven innings of a 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.
Wandy Rodriguez (1-1, 2.89) makes his second start since coming off the disabled list for Houston. Rodriguez allowed six runs - three earned - and six hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 6-1 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday.
