Marcum, Blue Jays look to recover vs. Orioles

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Shaun Marcum and the Toronto Blue Jays hope some home cooking will get them back on track.

Marcum and the Blue Jays look to stop a two-game slide when they take on the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.

Toronto was set to end a nine-game road trip on a winning note before closer B.J. Ryan served up a walk-off two-run homer to Jason Giambi in the Blue Jays' 9-8 loss to the New York Yankees on Thursday.

The Jays, who went 4-5 on their nine-game trek, hope Marcum (5-3, 2.63 ERA) can build on a recent run of success. The 26-year-old righthander has won three of his last four starts.

He earned a win in an 11-3 victory over Baltimore on April 15 after going winless in six previous appearances - four starts - against the Orioles.

Baltimore, which has won three of four, hands the ball to Brian Burres in hopes of getting back to the .500 mark. The 27-year lefthander has given up 15 runs and 22 hits in just 7 2/3 innings over his last two starts and allowed six homers in the process.

Toronto has won a season-high five straight home games while Baltimore is just 2-6 in its last eight on the road.
