Santana looks to get Mets back on track
Jun 6, 2008 - 2:37 PM NY Mets (30-29) at San Diego (25-37) 10:05 pm. EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Johan Santana will try and help the New York Mets bounce back from a disheartening loss when the club continues a four-game series with the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Scott Shoeneweis hit Paul McAnulty with the bases-loaded in the ninth inning to force home the winning run as the Padres took Thursday's series opener, 2-1. New York entered having won seven of nine, but was held to just five hits.
The Mets hope Santana (7-3, 3.20 ERA) can turn the tables on the Padres. The lefthander is coming off his most impressive outing of the season, allowing one run and six hits in a season-high 7 2/3 innings during a 6-1 win over Los Angeles on Sunday.
New York should feel confident with the two-time Cy Young Award winner on the mound, as it has won eight of his last nine starts.
San Diego counters with Randy Wolf (3-4, 4.33), who has just one win in his last eight starts. Wolf allowed one run and four hits in six innings, but did not factor into the decision during a 4-3 loss to San Francisco on Sunday.
