Rays aim to complete series sweep of Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Matt Garza tries to help the Tampa Bay Rays complete a three-game series sweep over the Texas Rangers in the finale on Sunday.

Garza (4-2, 4.21 ERA) was outstanding his last outing against the Rangers, limiting them to just two runs and four hits in eight innings for win on May 28. He owns a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA in two career starts against the American League West club.

The hard-throwing righthander stumbled in his most recent start, allowing seven runs and six hits in 5 1/3 frames during a 7-4 loss at Boston on Tuesday.

Rookie Doug Mathis (1-1, 9.00) takes the hill for Texas with the hopes of bouncing back after getting pounded for eight runs and 12 hits in just 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Monday.

The 25-year-old Mathis is making his first career outing against the Rays.

Willie Aybar delivered a two-run, go-ahead double in the top of the eighth inning as the Rays posted a 5-4 victory on Saturday.
