Griffey continues pursuit of history

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Ken Griffey Jr.'s pursuit of his 600th home run has done wonders for the Florida Marlins' sagging attendance.

A big contingent figures to be on hand again Sunday as Griffey's Cincinnati Reds continue a four-game series with the Marlins.

The Marlins' normally apathetic fan base has shown up in droves in hopes of seeing history made. Yet, Griffey has been stuck on 599 home runs since May 31 - a span of six games. On Saturday, 25,289 were on hand to watch as Griffey went 1-for-3 with two walks in an 8-7 loss.

Griffey, who is vying to become just the sixth member of the 600 home run club, will face a pitcher he has never seen before.

Ryan Tucker (NR) had his contract purchased from Class AA Carolina after Saturday's game to start because scheduled starter Burke Badenhop pitched in relief in Saturday's win. Tucker went 4-2 with 1.41 ERA in 12 starts for the Mudcats.

Tucker will be opposed by Reds' ace Aaron Harang (2-8, 3.86 ERA). Harang allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings of a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday - his third straight setback.

Saturday's victory was just the second in the last seven games for Florida.
