Padres shoot for fifth straight win

Jun 8, 2008 - 3:05 PM Ny Mets (30-31) at San Diego (27-37) 4:05 pm. EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres have been doing just enough to get by.

The Padres will try and lean on pitching and just enough offense to extend a season-high four-game winning streak when they continue a four-game series with the New York Mets on Sunday.

Scott Hairston hit walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give the Padres their fourth straight 2-1 victory - the first time in major-league history that a team has won by that margin.

San Diego hands the ball to Wilfredo Ledezma (0-2, 4.43 ERA). Ledezma is making his fourth start in place of ace Jake Peavy, who is on the disabled list. Ledezma allowed three runs and three hits in 4 2/3 innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 9-6 loss to Chicago on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Pedro Martinez (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will try and help the Mets snap a three-game skid. Martinez's return Tuesday from a hamstring injury went glowingly. The 36-year-old allowed three runs and seven hits - and threw 109 pitches - in a 9-6 victory over San Francisco.

The Mets, who have scored just three runs over the past three games, have been missing Ryan Church. Church has missed the past two games while still feeling the affects of a concussion he suffered on May 20.
