Giants aim for four-game sweep of Nationals

Jun 9, 2008 - 1:34 PM San Francisco (28-35) at Washington (25-39) 7:10 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants will look to complete a four-game sweep of the Washington Nationals on Monday.

Randy Winn delivered a two-run single and Aaron Rowand drove in the go-ahead run Sunday as the Giants erased a four-run deficit in the fifth inning en route to a 6-3 victory.

Seeking its season-high fourth straight win, San Francisco will send righthander Matt Cain (2-4, 4.67 ERA) to the mound. Cain was tagged for five runs and five hits with four walks over five innings during Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the New York Mets.

The Giants have lost their previous four games in which the 23-year-old Cain has started.

Washington will counter with rookie Tyler Clippard (NR), who is making his first start of the season. The 23-year-old righthander went 3-1 with a 6.33 ERA in six starts as a member of the New York Yankees last season.

The Nationals have lost seven of their last eight contests.
