Tigers, White Sox begin three-game series
Jun 10, 2008 - 3:01 PM Chi White Sox (37-26) at Detroit (26-37) 7:05 p.m. EDTDETROIT (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox are in the position many thought the Detroit Tigers would be in.
Looking to keep their offense rolling, the White Sox visit the Tigers in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday.
Widely expected to win the American League Central, the Tigers have been a major disappointment. They are in fourth place in the division, 11 games behind the White Sox. Chicago is 6 1/2 games in front of second-place Minnesota.
Chicago has scored 61 runs during its current seven-game winning streak.
Detroit's Nate Robertson (3-6, 6.03 ERA) will hope to slow down the White Sox. In his last outing, the lefthander gave up five runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 10-2 setback at Oakland last week.
Robertson makes his second start against the White Sox, who got five runs and seven hits in five innings off the 30-year-old in his season debut on April 4. He is just 5-6 lifetime against Chicago.
The White Sox will counter with Jose Contreras (6-3, 2.76), who has been solid away from U.S. Celluar Field this season, posting a 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA through six road outings.
