After hitting home run No. 600, Griffey, Reds return home

Jun 10, 2008 - 1:15 PM St. Louis (38-27) at Cincinnati (31-34) 7:10 p.m. EDT

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- After finally hitting his 600th home run, Ken Griffey Jr.tries to help the Cincinnati Reds claim back-to-back victories when they open a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Griffey became the sixth player in major league history to reach the 600-home run plateau by belting a two-run shot off Florida Marlins lefthander Mark Hendrickson in the first inning of Monday's 9-4 victory - his first homer since May 31.

Griffey launched a 3-1 offering from Hendrickson over the right field wall to join Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa as the only players to accomplish the feat. It was his second career blast off Hendrickson and fifth at Dolphin Stadium.

The 38-year-old right fielder now looks for homer No. 601 when the Reds face Cardinals' rookie starter Mitchell Boggs (0-0, 4.50 ERA) on Tuesday.

Boggs is making his first start in the majors after allowing three hits and one run in two innings of relief during his big-league debut against the Houston Astros on Friday.

Homer Bailey (0-1, 2.84) tries to bounce back from a tough loss in his first start of the 2008 season when he counters for Cincinnati.

The 22-year-old righthander surrendered five runs - two earned - and four hits in 6 1/3 innings, falling victim to a trio of Reds' errors en route to a 5-0 setback against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.
