Navarro looks to stay hot vs. Angels
Jun 10, 2008 - 1:42 PM Tampa Bay (38-26) at LA Angels (39-26) 10:05 p.m. EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Dioner Navarro tries to stay red-hot when the Tampa Bay Rays continue a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday.
Navarro had a home run and four RBI during the series opener on Monday to lead the Rays to a 13-4 drubbing against the Angels.
The 24-year-old catcher is 9-for-17 during his current four-game hitting streak, raising his batting average to .349 this season.
James Shields (4-4, 3.64 ERA) takes the mound for the Rays on Tuesday while he appeals his seven-game suspension after intentionally hitting Coco Crisp of the Boston Red Sox during his last start.
Shields allowed four runs and three hits before he was ejected with no outs in the second inning following a bench-clearing brawl, which ensued after the 24-year-old righthander plunked Crisp in the the right leg.
Jered Weaver (5-6, 4.79) eyes his fourth win in his last five starts when he counters for the Angels.
The 25-year-old righthander earned the win during Wednesday's 5-4 victory against the Seattle Mariners despite allowing four runs and 10 hits in just six innings.
