Struggling Mets hope to get back on track

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Mets hope to snap a four-game losing streak when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first game of a three-game series Tuesday.

New York went 2-5 on its road trip, which ended with a four-game sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres. The Mets dropped the first three games by a 2-1 score before Tony Clark hit the game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Padres an 8-6 victory on Sunday.

John Maine (6-4, 3.47 ERA) hopes to get the Mets back in the win column when he takes the hill.

The righthander won his last outing, allowing two runs - one earned - in six innings during New York's 5-3 triumph over the San Francisco Giants last Wednesday.

Micah Owings (6-4, 4.50) will take the mound for Arizona, looking to snap a personal two-game losing streak. The righthander lasted just three innings in his last start, giving up five runs - four earned - as Arizona lost, 10-1, at Milwaukee last Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks are in the midst of a 10-game road trip and have gone just 2-5 in their previous seven games. Arizona dropped the final two contests at Pittsburgh, including a 5-3 setback on Monday.

One lone bright spot for Arizona during its road trip has been Mark Reynolds, who is batting .423 (11-for-26) with three home runs and eight RBI over his last seven games. The third baseman hit all three of his home runs in his team's last two games.
