Hamels aims to build off three-hitter
Jun 11, 2008 - 1:34 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Cole Hamels will take the mound for the first time since his three-hitter when the Philadelphia Phillies face the Florida Marlins on Wednesday.Hamels (6-4, 3.36 ERA) was almost unhittable in his last outing, allowing just three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in a complete game shutout against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.
The 23-year-old lefthanded ace had given up 13 runs over 9 2/3 innings during his previous two starts.
The Marlins will counter with lefthander Andrew Miller (4-5, 5.65), who is trying to avoid his third straight loss. The 23-year-old Miller was tagged for four runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings during Friday's 11-3 loss to the Reds.
Jorge Cantu and Mike Jacobs each belted two-run homers as Florida posted a 5-4 triumph over Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Hanley Ramirez also homered for the Marlins, connecting on a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. It was his fifth leadoff homer of the season for Florida, which won for the third time in its last four outings.
Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell launched homers for Philadelphia, which had its four-game winning streak snapped in losing for just the third time in 15 contests.
