Harang, Reds host Red Sox in interleague series opener
Jun 13, 2008 - 3:39 PM Boston (42-27) at Cincinnati (32-36), 7:10 pm EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Aaron Harang has gone over a month without picking up a win. He will be hard-pressed to end that slide against the Boston Red Sox.
Harang takes the mound Friday when the Cincinnati Reds host the World Series champion Red Sox in opener of a three-game interleague series.
A 16-game winner each of the last two seasons, Harang (2-9, 4.31 ERA) has not recorded a victory since May 12 vs. the Florida Marlins, a span of six starts.
Harang's winless drought continued in awful fashion Sunday, when the ace righthander allowed season highs of eight runs and 11 hits in a 9-2 loss at Florida.
Cincinnati salvaged the finale of a three-game set with St. Louis by posting a 6-2 victory Thursday. It was just the fourth win in the last 11 games for the Reds.
Conversely, the surging Red Sox enter this series with 10 wins in their last 13 games.
Boston wrapped up a 7-2 homestand Thursday with a 9-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. J.D. Drew homered for the fourth time in five games for the Red Sox, who have scored 34 runs over their last five contests.
The Red Sox on Friday give the ball to rookie Justin Masterson (3-0, 2.59), who has won his last three starts. The righthander has yielded only one run in three of his four outings this season.
