Worst teams meet when Nats visit Mariners
Jun 13, 2008 - 4:46 PM Washington (26-42) at Seattle (24-42), 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The teams with the worst records in their respective leagues clash Friday when the Washington Nationals visit the Seattle Mariners in the opener of a three-game interleague series.
The Nationals have lost 10 of their last 12 games while the Mariners have dropped 15 of their last 21 - despite winning two out of three at the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the week.
R.A. Dickey (1-1, 2.67 ERA) will take the mound for Seattle, making just his second start of the season. He lost his first start on April 18, allowing five runs in six innings to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The righthander earned the win in his last appearance, pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen as Seattle topped Toronto, 3-2, on Monday.
The Nationals will counter with Shawn Hill (0-3, 4.35), who has lost each of his last two starts.
The 27-year-old righthander allowed just two runs in 7 1/3 innings last Saturday, but did not get any run support as Washington was blanked by San Francisco, 6-0.
