Cubs try to shake off loss, face Blue Jays
Jun 14, 2008 - 1:01 PM CHI CUBS (43-25) at TORONTO (35-34), 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- Jason Marquis and the Chicago Cubs aim to shake off a rare loss when they continue their interleague series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Chicago suffered a 3-2 loss to Toronto on Friday which snapped the club's four-game winning streak. Chicago had won its past 10 series-opening games dating to May 5 against Cincinnati.
Owners of the majors best record, the Cubs send Marquis (4-3, 4.54 ERA) to the mound looking for his third straight victory. It won't be easy as the righthander has lost his last three starts in AL parks, posting a 13.20 ERA in those contests.
Toronto, which is once again over the .500 mark, gives the ball to ace Roy Halladay (8-5, 3.07 ERA). The 2003 American League Cy Young Award winner, Halladay is looking to win six straight starts for the first time in five years.
The righthander, who is 8-1 in his last 10 interleague starts at Toronto, aims for a half dozen consecutive victories since reeling off a career-best 11 straight from May 1-July 2, 2003. In his only career start against the Cubs on June 8, 2005, Halladay allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings of a 2-0 loss.
