Howard, Phillies aim to continue hit parade
Jun 14, 2008 - 12:11 PM Philadelphia (41-28) at St. Louis (40-29) 3:55 p.m. EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Ryan Howard and the Philadelphia Phillies look to continue the hit parade on Saturday when they continue a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Howard homered twice and drove in five runs during the series opener on Friday as the Phillies posted an eye-popping 20-2 rout over the Cardinals.
The 2006 National League MVP, Howard had not homered in June prior to Friday. Chase Utley stroked his major league-leading 22nd home run for Philadelphia.
Friday's contest was the second time this season the Phillies scored 20 runs, accomplishing the feat during a 20-5 triumph over the Colorado Rockies at Citizens Bank Park on May 26. Philadelphia, which owns a four-game lead over the Florida Marlins for first place in the National League East Division, ranks second in the majors in homers (99) while placing third in runs (373).
Adam Eaton (2-3, 4.62 ERA) hopes to reap the benefits of the Phillies offense and continue his recent success when he takes the mound on Saturday.
Eaton is 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA over his last three starts after posting a dismal 0-3 record and 6.43 ERA during his previous four outings.
Kyle Lohse (7-2, 3.92) tries to earn his fifth win in as many starts for the first time in his career when he toes the rubber for the Cardinals.
