Garza, Rays look to continue home streak
Jun 14, 2008 - 12:59 PM FLORIDA (36-31) at TAMPA BAY (39-28), 6:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- Matt Garza and the Tampa Bay Rays aim for their fifth straight home victory on Saturday when they face the Florida Marlins in interleague play.
Tampa Bay defeated Florida, 7-3, on Friday to run its record to 25-10 at Tropicana Field - the second best home mark in the American League.
The Rays give the ball to Garza (4-3, 4.38 ERA), who tries to maintain a perfect record (3-0) here. However, the 24-year-old righthander has struggled in his last two starts, going 0-2 and surrendering 10 runs total in road losses at Texas and Boston.
The Marlins, losers of five of six on the road, counter with Mark Hendrickson (7-4, 5.76 ERA), who is winless in his last three outings. The tall lefthander, at 6-9, surrendered six runs and five hits in just 2 1/3 frames in a 9-4 loss to Cincinnati last Monday.
The Marlins hold a 34-22 advantage in the "Battle of Florida."
