Mauer, Twins aim for sweep of Brewers
Jun 15, 2008 - 2:30 PM Minnesota (34-35) at Milwaukee (35-33), 2:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
Mauer collected two hits in each of the first two games of the series. The 25-year-old catcher is batting .326 with two homers and 27 RBI this season.
The Twins overcame a game-tying home run by pinch-hitter Russell Branyan with two outs in the ninth, scoring five times in the 12th frame to notch a 9-4 victory on Sunday.
Michael Cuddyer, who did not start due to a bruised hand, delivered a two-run triple in the 12th and scored on center fielder Mike Cameron's throwing error to cap the rally in exciting fashion. Brian Buscher's two-run single earlier in the inning gave the Twins a 6-4 advantage.
Minnesota, which had lost seven of its previous eight contests entering this series, will send righthander Scott Baker (2-1, 3.60 ERA) to the mound. Baker was a hard-luck loser his last time out, allowing just one run on eight hits and a walk over seven innings during Tuesday's 1-0 setback to the Cleveland Indians.
He will be opposed by Seth McClung (3-3, 4.07), who is making his fifth start of the season. The righthander gave up two runs and three hits with five strikeouts over six frames in Tuesday's 6-1 setback to the Houston Astros.
The Brewers have been outscored by a 19-6 margin this series.
