Brewers gunning for fifth straight win
Jun 20, 2008 - 1:39 PM Baltimore (37-34) at Milwaukee (39-33) 8:05 p.m. EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers go for their fifth straight win on Friday when they open a three-game interleague series against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Brewers earned a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday on the strength of a stellar pitching performance by Dave Bush. The 28-year-old righthander carried a no hitter into the eighth inning before Milwaukee barely escaped with an 8-7 victory.
Russell Branyan homered for the third straight game during the series finale, pushing his hitting streak to six games while recording his fifth home run in eight games.
Jeff Suppan (4-4, 3.68) takes the mound for the Brewers on Friday and has pitched well of late, going 2-0 over his last four starts with his last loss coming on May 23.
Suppan allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings, walking one while striking out five but did not factor in the decision during Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Rookie Radhames Liz (1-0, 4.32 ERA) counters for the Orioles after taking a pair of no decisions over his previous two starts.
Liz surrendered four runs, four hits, and a walk while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings as Baltimore claimed an 8-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.
