Slumping Astros meet streaking Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros try to snap an eight-game losing streak on Friday when they open a three-game interleague series against the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays.

The Astros haven't done much right over their slide - its longest losing streak since dropping 10 straight games from in May 2007.

Houston has been outscored 58-27 over its last eight games and has fallen to the bottom of the National League Central Division with just three wins in their last 20 games overall, including a 7-5 setback to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Rays couldn't be hotter after sweeping a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs (45-28), improving to 29-11 at home - the second best record in the majors.

Matt Garza (5-3, 4.06 ERA) tries to lead Tampa Bay to its 26th win in the last 30 home games when he takes the mound on Friday.

Garza bounced back from a pair of losses on Saturday, allowing just one run and three hits in seven innings, walking one while striking out three to earn the win during a 4-1 victory over the Florida Marlins.

The Astros turn to staff ace Roy Oswalt (5-7, 5.04) to end their recent woes.

Oswalt struggled with his control during his last start as he surrendered seven runs, but just three earned, and eight hits while walking four in 5 2/3 innings during Sunday's 13-0 drubbing against the New York Yankees.
