Pelfrey, Mets aim to take rubber game from Rockies

DENVER (Ticker) -- Mike Pelfrey and the New York Mets aim take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

New York, which fired manager Willie Randolph on Tuesday, had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 7-1 loss on Saturday. Colorado righthander Ubaldo Jimenez threw eight outstanding innings and Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe hit back-to-back home runs in a six-run fifth.

The Mets, who were held to just four hits, hope that Pelfrey (3-6, 4.62 ERA) can build off his first win in over two months. The 24-year-old righthander picked up his first win since April 15 despite allowing six runs and eight hits in six innings of a 9-6 victory over Anaheim on Monday - hours before Randolph was fired.

Meanwhile, the defending National League champion Rockies are starting to look the part. Colorado has won 12 of 17, and should only get better when shortstop Troy Tulowitzki shakes off the rust. Tulowitzki, who missed almost two months with a torn left quadriceps, had a pair of hits on Saturday.

Tulowitzki and the Rockies will look to stay hot behind rookie Greg Reynolds (2-4, 5.98), who allowed just one run and five hits in six innings of a 10-2 win over Cleveland on Tuesday.

Colorado is looking to win its sixth straight series.
