Top MLB Parlay for Thursday, April 14 (2022)

Apr 14, 2022 - 2:20 PM

Yesterday’s parlay went just 1-2, easily losing thanks to the Cubs and Rays losing games to the Pirates and Athletics. Go figure. I still think it’s good practice to bet against bad teams, and eventually, teams like the Pirates and Athletics will have long losing streaks.

Today’s a bit of a smaller slate with multiple teams headed out on the road for a getaway day. There might be fewer options, but there are still some terrific spots for our parlay tonight. Let’s get right to it for April 14’s top parlay.

Seattle Mariners (-105)

There is a clear pitching mismatch in this one. The White Sox will pitch Jimmy Lambert, who allowed a 6.70 xFIP in limited action last season. He struck out under 17 percent of batters, walked 10 percent of batters, struggled to earn ground balls, gave up plenty of hard contact, and is now the favorite in this game.

Yeah right.

The Mariners had a .183 ISO and wOBA of .323 against righties last season and should have a lineup full of guys with power. Meanwhile, Logan Gilbert will take the hill for the Mariners after striking out 25.5 percent of batters last season. On top of that, Gilbert allowed just 5.9 percent walks and is really starting to mature on the mound. He struck out seven in his 2022 debut against the Twins and allowed just one run on three hits in five innings.

Give me Gilbert over Lambert. Give me the Mariners over the White Sox.

Bet: Mariners (-105 at DraftKings)

Los Angeles Angels (-140)

I’m ready to back Shohei Ohtani for the first time this season. Ohtani finished last season with an MVP award. It was mainly for his hitting, but he also has a .379 xFIP with nearly 30 percent strikeouts combining 2021 and 2022 numbers together. That’s incredible stuff from Ohtani, knowing he was also hitting the lights out of the ball.

Ohtani has allowed some solid power to lefties in his career but has dominated righties, holding them to a .236 wOBA and ISO of .054.

There are also many names that are strikeout candidates against Ohtani, including Brad Miller, Mitch Garver, Nate Lowe, Adolis Garcia, and Kole Calhoun, who all strike out more than 23 percent against righties dating back to last year.

Meanwhile, Dane Dunning will take the mound for the Rangers. He should also earn a high amount of strikeouts, but the Angels just have more potential when it comes to limiting ground balls and hitting line-drive contact. If Dunning isn’t getting ground balls, it’s going to be bad news.

Bet: Angels (-140 at DraftKings)

Los Angeles Dodgers (-260)

The Dodgers will pitch Walker Buehler, and the Reds will pitch Luis Cessa along with Reiver Sanmartin. Sanmartin was so bad in his first start against the Braves that he now needs Luis Cessa to open for him in tonight’s game against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are so well balanced that it really doesn’t matter who starts the game and who comes into the game. Cessa and Sanmartin aren’t going to blow any Dodgers hitters away.

Meanwhile, Walker Buehler might. Especially against a Reds lineup that is pretty much depleted now without Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker, and Eugenio Suarez, to name a few. Take the Dodgers in the parlay with confidence.

Bet: Dodgers (-260 at DraftKings)

Parlay: (+363 at DraftKings)
