Dodgers, Angels to kick off 'Freeway Series'
Jun 27, 2008 - 2:39 PM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- If the Los Angeles Dodgers would like to end interleague play on high note. The Dodgers begin the second installment of the "Freeway Series" on Friday when they host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The Dodgers are 3-9 in interleague play this season and have lost nine of the last 11 meetings in this series - including two of three last month. More bad news for the Dodgers - The Angels own the best road record in the majors at 26-13.
The Dodgers continued their struggles against the American League in Thursday's 2-0 setback to the Chicago White Sox. It marked the ninth time this month they scored one run or less in a contest.
Another strong start from Chan Ho Park (2-2, 2.83 ERA) may be just what the Dodgers need to shake their struggles against the AL. The righthander, normally the team's long reliever, allowed one run and struck out nine over five innings but didn't receive the decision in Saturday's 7-2, 11-inning loss to Cleveland.
He'll need to be at his best to match Joe Saunders (11-3, 3.03), who can take over the league lead in wins with a victory on Friday. The lefthander, who has won each of his three interleague starts this season, yielded two runs over seven innings in a 6-2 victory at Philadelphia.
