Padres hoping to end six-game skid vs. Mariners
Jun 28, 2008 - 1:01 PM Seattle (29-50) at San Diego (32-49) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres try to end a six-game losing streak Saturday when they host the Seattle Mariners for the middle contest of a three-game series.
Brian Giles and Adrian Gonzalez collected five of the club's seven hits and rookie Chase Headley blasted a two-run shot as the Padres suffered a 4-2 setback Friday. San Diego has lost 10 of its previous 11 contests and fallen into last place of the National League West.
Owners of the worst record in the majors, Seattle was not without its problems in the win. The club stranded a franchise-record 18 runners on base.
The Mariners will face former teammate Cha Seung Baek (1-3, 5.27 ERA), who was traded to the Padres on May 29 for pitcher Jared Wells. After winning his first start with San Diego, the South Korean righthander is winless over his last four starts.
Baek was tagged for six runs and eight hits with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 frames in last Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
He will be opposed by Carlos Silva (3-9, 5.92), who has lost seven consecutive starts and his previous nine decisions.
