Nationals' Lannan hoping for support
Jun 28, 2008 - 1:03 PM Baltimore (40-38) at Washington (32-49) 7:10 p.m. EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Rookie John Lannan has been the biggest victim of the Washington Nationals' dismal offense this season.
Lannan tries to earn his first win in June when the Nationals continue a three-game interleague series against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
A 23-year-old lefthander, Lannan (4-8, 3.34 ERA) is 0-4 over his previous six starts despite allowing just two runs in each of his last five outings. The Nationals, who rank last in the majors in batting average (.239), runs scored (296) and slugging percentage (.360), have scored a total of four runs over Lannan's last six appearances.
Lannan hopes for some increased run support on Saturday after pitching well in his only previous start against the Orioles this season. He allowed one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings, recording his most recent win during Washington's 2-1 victory on May 18.
Fellow rookie lefthander Garrett Olson (5-3, 5.01) aims to get back on track when he counters for the Orioles.
After winning five of his first six decisions of 2008, Olson has lost two of his previous three outings, logging an 8.40 ERA over that span.
