Top MLB Team Totals Odds & Picks for Tuesday, April 19th (2022)

Apr 19, 2022 - 2:55 PM

We’re set for a 17-game slate today due to a pair of rainouts last night in the Diamondbacks vs. Nationals game and Giants vs. Mets game. Today, those teams will play nine-inning doubleheaders to make up for yesterday’s postponed games. Let’s dive into a few different team totals that I’ll be locking in for tonight on this packed Tuesday afternoon schedule.

Pittsburgh Pirates O/U 2.5 Total Runs

Last night, the Brewers bested the Pirates in the series opener with a 6-1 win. They’ll look for their third straight win tonight as they send Corbin Burnes to the mound while the Pirates counter with JT Brubaker in this matchup set for 7:40 ET from Milwaukee.

Corbin Burnes is winless over two starts this season. He earned a no-decision in his season debut against the Cubs and couldn’t corral a win last time out against the Orioles. The 2021 Cy Young winner dominated the O’s on Wednesday, throwing 7.0 innings of shutout baseball and allowing just three hits and a walk.

We won’t get much wiggle room with the Pirates’ win total set at just 2.5 runs. However, I still like the under at +108, considering how dominant Burnes was last time out. The right-hander has faced Pittsburgh’s current lineup in 37 at-bats and limited them to a slash line of .128/.143/.264. Burnes should stifle this lowly Pirates offense and hold them to under 2.5 runs while picking up his first win of the year. The big guns are available in Milwaukee’s bullpen tonight, with Brad Boxberger, Devin Williams, and Josh Hader all having last night off.

Bet: Pittsburgh Pirates Under 2.5 Total Runs (+108 via Unibet)

Cincinnati Reds O/U 3.0 Total Runs

The Reds dropped the series opener 4-1 last night to the Padres. That’s Cincinnati’s seventh straight loss, while San Diego has now won two consecutive games. The Reds will try to get back in the win column when they send Reiver Sanmartin to the bump. Joe Musgrove takes the ball for the Friars in this matchup set for 9:40 ET from Petco Park.

Joe Musgrove is 1-0 on the season with a 1.42 ERA and 0.71 WHIP over two starts. The right-hander recently threw 6.2 shutout innings against the Braves on Thursday. He gave up four hits in that game and has yet to issue a walk over 12.2 innings of work this season.

Cincinnati owns one of the worst offenses in baseball this season. They’re dead last in team OPS at .541 and 20th in batting average at .181. The Reds’ OPS drops to .531 against right-handed pitching, which is also last. Cincinnati’s lineup has faced Musgrove over 49 at-bats, and they slash .165/.209/.377 against him. All things considered, I like Musgrove to turn in another quality start and hold the Reds to under three runs tonight.

Bet: Cincinnati Reds Under 3.0 Total Runs (-110 via FanDuel)

Texas Rangers O/U 3.5 Total Runs

The Mariners and Rangers open up a three-game series tonight in Seattle. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 ET, with Jon Gray going for the Rangers and Robbie Ray toeing the rubber for the M’s.

Robbie Ray has made two starts this season and has a 4.73 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 13.1 innings. Most recently, the left-hander was touched up for six earned runs over 6.1 innings against the White Sox. He allowed 10 hits and issued two free passes in the losing effort.

The White Sox are the best team in baseball against left-handed pitching this season, and they were able to get to Ray quite easily. As for the Rangers, they’re the second-best team against LHP as they boast a batting average of .308 and OPS of .953. This season, the Rangers have hit six home runs against lefties, the second-most in the league. Due to the Rangers’ success against lefties this season, I like them to clear their team total of 3.5 runs tonight.

Bet: Texas Rangers Over 3.5 Total Runs (+104 via Unibet)
