Tigers look to keep rolling at Twins
Jun 30, 2008 - 2:59 PM Detroit (41-40) at Minnesota (45-37) 8:10 p.m. EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Detroit Tigers go for their sixth straight win when they open a three-game series at the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
Detroit had lost its first seven games and was 24-36 before a torrid stretch has pushed it over the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Tigers swept the Colorado Rockies over the weekend.
Rookie Armando Galarraga (7-2, 3.32 ERA) hopes to continue Detroit's momentum and bounce back from a poor outing when he takes the mound.
The righthander has not lost since May 23, but he lasted only 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs - four earned - against St. Louis on Wednesday. The Tigers did rally for an 8-7 victory.
Galarraga has also lost both of his starts this season to Minnesota, which posted a 5-0 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday, one day after having its 10-game winning streak snapped.
Kevin Slowey pitched his first career complete game shutout in Sunday's win, allowing just three hits while striking out eight.
Glen Perkins (4-2, 4.47) looks to follow up Slowey's strong outing when he takes the mound for the Twins. The lefthander has won two straight starts and is 1-0 in his career against the Tigers.
Perkins allowed three runs over five innings, earning the win in Minnesota's 9-3 victory at San Diego on Wednesday.
