Lohse, Cardinals open four-game set with Mets
Jun 30, 2008 - 12:54 PM NY Mets (40-41) at St. Louis (47-36) 7:05 EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Kyle Lohse hopes to rebound from a rare sub-par outing as the St. Louis Cardinals open a four-game set with the New York Mets on Monday.
Lohse (9-2, 3.94 ERA) had won six straight starts before allowing five runs and 11 hits in the Cardinals' 8-7 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. However, the righthander did not factor in the decision and will look to win his seventh straight decision - and surpass last year's win total - with a victory over the Mets.
The Cardinals are coming off a series win over the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, winning the last two games of a three-game set. Albert Pujols hit career home run No. 299 as St. Louis won the rubber match, 9-6, on Sunday.
The Mets, who split a four-game series with the New York Yankees over the weekend, have gone 6-6 under interim manager Jerry Manuel. Oliver Perez pitched seven outstanding innings as the Mets won, 3-1, on Sunday.
John Maine (8-5, 3.73) will look to win his third straight start when he takes the hill for the Mets.
The righthander allowed two runs over six innings as New York posted an 8-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
