Tigers target seventh straight triumph

Jul 1, 2008 - 2:45 PM Detroit (42-40) at Minnesota (45-38), 8:10 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- With the talent the Detroit Tigers have in their lineup, it seemed only a matter of time before they started producing. That time appears to be now.

The Tigers eye their season-high seventh straight win Tuesday when they continue their three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.

Detroit pounded out 12 hits in its series-opening 5-4 comeback victory on Monday to move a season-high two games over .500. Viewed by many as a World Series contender before the season, the Tigers fell as many as 12 games under the .500 mark (24-36) in June, only to win 18 of their next 22 games.

Led by Curtis Granderson, who had the go-ahead hit in the their latest win, the Tigers are batting .375 (84-for-224) with 34 runs scored during their six-game streak, collecting no fewer than 11 hits in any game during that stretch.

Detroit also has been winning recently when Nate Robertson (6-6, 5.23 ERA) takes the mound. The Tigers have won six of the lefthander's last seven starts after just winning two of his first nine.

Robertson settled for a no-decision, however, in his last outing as allowed an unearned run over 6 1/3 innings in Thursday's 3-2, 10-inning win over St. Louis.

The Twins will counter with Scott Baker (4-2, 3.57), who will look to win three consecutive starts for the first time in his career. The righthander yielded three runs and six hits over six innings in Thursday's 4-3 victory at San Diego.
