Mariners looking to continue momentum against Blue Jays
Jul 2, 2008 - 12:47 PM Toronto (41-44) at Seattle (32-51) 10:10 p.m. EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Seattle Mariners try to build off the momentum of a come-from-behind win on Wednesday when they wrap up a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Mariners trailed by four runs after six innings on Tuesday but scored five times in the final three frames, claiming a 7-6 victory on Willie Bloomquist's walk-off single in the ninth inning.
First baseman Richie Sexson hit his 10th home run of the season - a solo shot - to tie the score in the eighth inning. The home run was Sexson's first since May 24.
With Tuesday's win, Seattle improved to 7-4 under interim manager Jim Riggleman, who took over after John McLaren was fired on June 19.
Jarrod Washburn (3-7, 5.23 ERA) tries to help the Mariners earn their seventh win in the last nine games when he takes the mound on Wednesday.
Washburn has allowed just six total runs in his last four starts but picked up his first win in nine appearances on Friday during a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Dustin McGowan (6-6, 4.26), who has alternated wins and losses over his last four starts, counters for the Blue Jays.
